Emergency quick reference

Ring or text 07533 826424, any hour

You are pricked or cut by a needle, or splashed in the eye or mouth by blood

  1. Bleed it gently under running water, wash, cover.
  2. Go to A and E or phone 111 NOW and say it is a needlestick injury. Do not finish the shift first.
  3. Phone MediClean the same day, whatever the time.

You find a sharp

  1. Do not touch it, with or without gloves.
  2. Make the area safe. Tell practice staff if any are there. If not, phone MediClean.
  3. Leave it where it is.

Chemical in your eye

  1. Rinse with clean running water for 15 minutes, eyelid held open, water running away from the other eye.
  2. Get help while you are still rinsing.
  3. Take the product label with you.

Chemical on your skin

  1. Remove contaminated clothing.
  2. Rinse with cool running water for 15 minutes. Do not scrub.
  3. Check the safety data sheet. Get medical help if the skin is broken or still painful.

You have mixed two products by accident

  1. Leave the area.
  2. Open a window or door if it is safe.
  3. Phone MediClean straight away. Do not go back in to tidy up.

Blood or body fluid spill

  1. Make it safe. Gloves, apron and eye protection.
  2. Absorb from the outside in, into clinical waste, then disinfect, then clean.
  3. Never bleach on urine until it is absorbed.

Fire alarm

  1. Leave everything. Nearest safe exit, no lift, close doors behind you.
  2. Go to the assembly point. Do not go back in.
  3. Phone MediClean once you are out.

You find a fire

  1. Nearest call point, get out.
  2. 999 from outside.
  3. Do not investigate, do not fight it.

The alarm will not set

  1. Do not force it and do not leave the building open.
  2. Phone MediClean.

Door open, window broken, signs of a break-in

  1. Do not go inside.
  2. Go somewhere safe and phone MediClean.
  3. Phone the police if it is clearly a break-in.

Somebody in the building who should not be, or aggression at the door

  1. Do not challenge them. Get out.
  2. 999 if you feel threatened, then MediClean.

You feel unsafe for any reason at all

  1. Leave. You will never be criticised for it.
